How can I prepare for my tutoring session?

While no preparation for tutoring sessions is required, there are things that you can do to ensure maximum productivity during the session:

  • Prepare questions and specific topics for the tutor to cover
    • Going through your homework and/or classwork on your own and answering any questions with which you do not need the tutor's assistance allows you to quickly move in between problems you find challenging without having to spend time going through all the questions on the assignment. For subjects that do not have clear-cut questions (Eg. History, English, etc...) this may be as simple as making a brief list of topics that you do not fully understand and would like the tutor's help with.
  • Prepare material to be uploaded into the session
    • Most material that the tutor will be working with you on is going to be uploaded into the session so that they can write directly on it. Materials can be uploaded in a number of ways, including as documents and pictures. Ensuring documents are downloaded and easy to find (maybe on your desktop or a homework folder) or taking pictures of paper homework ahead of time allows you to upload your homework at the start of the session without waiting for downloads or dealing with any technical issues during the session. If you are not familiar or comfortable with uploading documents to the session yourself, you may also email the documents/pictures to your tutor, which can be done before the session as well.
  • Ensure your computer is charged and you have a stable internet connection
    • Since our lessons are performed online, making sure your computer and internet and functioning and ready to go are important to having a productive session. If you are preparing for your first session, we recommend running an internet speed test here and ensuring that you get at least 40mbps of download speed and 5mbps of upload speed to ensure a smooth experience. Additional information about computer and network requirements is available here.

If you need to reach out to your tutor directly, you can always find their contact information within your customer portal which you can log into at any time here.
